LunahUP verification standards

What our verification seal means.

A current Verified by LunahUP seal means the profile completed the required identity and professional-credential review.

For individual providers

  1. The provider supplies a professional profile and requests verification through their private editor.
  2. LunahUP checks the NPI’s active status, name and individual-provider type against the public CMS registry. An NPI alone does not prove licensure.
  3. Staff check official licensing sources for the states and scope listed on the profile, including expiry and disqualifying restrictions.
  4. An authorized reviewer checks an unexpired government photo ID in a privately submitted video with the current verification phrase, or during a live video or in-person review. The reviewer may inspect the original ID without retaining a copy, or use a privately uploaded copy alongside the live check. The review records the document type, actual evidence method, review date and reviewer. ID uploads and review evidence stay private.

For practices and organizations

The review uses the organization’s NPI, applicable license or registration evidence, and the authorized representative’s identity and authority to act for the practice. Each clinician completes a separate review; a practice’s seal does not automatically verify its team.

When a seal changes

A review expires within 90 days or at the earliest reviewed license expiry, whichever comes first. Changes to reviewed professional details require another review. Pending, rejected, expired and incomplete reviews do not receive a verified seal. A publishing exception does not award verification.

Owner-approved practices

An explicit owner-approved publishing exception may display Owner-approved practice. This identifies the recorded practice-specific publishing authorization and matching organization NPI. It does not claim an independent representative photo-ID review and does not verify individual clinicians. The approval disappears when the authorization expires, is revoked, or no longer matches the published practice.

Listed and verified are different

Listed on LunahUP identifies a published directory profile. It is available for sharing without claiming a completed review. A website or email signature links back to the current profile. Copied images or email image caches can be older; click the seal to check current status.

What the seal does not mean

Verification is not a guarantee of clinical quality, outcomes, appointment availability or insurance coverage. Confirm current services and fees with the provider. Private ID images, government ID numbers and reviewer evidence are never displayed in the public seal.

How listing details stay current

Unclaimed listings

A profile marked Unclaimed profile comes from the clinician’s public record in the federal NPI registry (NPPES), run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It shows only what that record publishes, such as name, credential, profession, practice city and phone, and it is refreshed when the registry is read again. The clinician has not reviewed it. They can claim it for free, and anyone can ask for it to be removed from the link at the foot of the profile.

Accepting new clients

An “Accepting new clients” or waitlist status is shown only while the provider has confirmed it within the last 30 days. Providers get a reminder as that date approaches and can re-confirm in one click. After it lapses, the profile shows “Contact for availability” and leaves the accepting-new-clients filter until the provider confirms again.

Insurance

On an unclaimed listing, a health plan appears only when that plan’s own public provider directory lists the clinician, and the profile names the directory and the date it was checked. It does not mean the clinician accepts your plan: plan directories are often out of date, so confirm with your plan and the practice. On a claimed profile, insurance is what the provider lists.

Fees, services and answers

Fees, services, ages served and yes-or-no answers, such as a service the provider does not offer, are the provider’s own statements on a claimed profile. An unclaimed listing shows them only when staff have reviewed the practice’s own website, and the profile names that source and the date it was checked.

Numbers on city pages

Counts on city and specialty pages are taken from the listings published in the directory when the page is shown. They describe the directory, not every provider in an area.
