- "None listed" isn't "no care". This directory leaves out clinicians it has matched to hospital systems and community mental health centers, because it lists private practice. They may practice in a county that shows none or few.
- Telehealth isn't counted. People in a county may see a clinician by telehealth from elsewhere. A telehealth-only listing has no practice location here.
- One county per listing. Each listing counts once, in the county of its listed ZIP code. A clinician may also practice elsewhere, and a ZIP code can cross county lines.
- No population figures. Counties aren't adjusted for population or need, so don't compare them as better or worse served.
How these figures are counted
- Counted when this page loads, on November 5, 2026, from published listings in this directory.
- Source: the public NPI record, the federal registry of healthcare providers. NPI records were copied between October 16, 2026 and October 26, 2026.
- Psychiatrists are listings whose NPI record names a psychiatry specialty and whose credential doesn't show another license. 21 have no credential on the record, so they couldn't be checked that way.
- Psychiatric nurse practitioners are listings whose NPI record names that specialty, or whose nurse practitioner credential appears on a record registered under psychiatry. They are never counted as psychiatrists.
- Left out: psychiatric nurses who aren't nurse practitioners, primary care clinicians, therapists and practices listed as a whole.
- Older records: 472 NPI records were last updated more than 5 years ago, and clinicians update their own records, so some details may be out of date.
- NPI registry columns: a snapshot from November 1, 2026 of active individual records with a psychiatry or psychiatric nurse practitioner specialty as primary and a practice address in the state, sorted by the same rules as the listings. They include hospitals and community clinics, and a registry count isn't a count of who is practicing or taking patients. The gap between the columns isn't a count of who this directory left out, because the two were taken on different dates and use different filters.
